What to Expect During a FST Session

During an FST session, the client lies comfortably on a treatment table while the therapist moves their limbs and body in specific patterns. The stretches are performed in a slow and deliberate manner, with the therapist applying appropriate tension to the fascia while the client breathes deeply and relaxes.

Clients are instructed to wear loose, comfortable clothing during their session.  Athletic attire works perfectly!

Even though the treatment is pain-free, everyone's body is unique.  So, we keep an open communication policy during your session.  At any point, if something is uncomfortable or painful, let us know.  There are plenty of ways to modify the techniques for your body type.  You'll also be asked, periodically, how you are feeling.  Please be open and honest.

What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a manual therapy technique that focuses on stretching and mobilizing the body's fascia. Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's structural integrity and allows for efficient movement.

FST involves the use of gentle, assisted stretching, using advanced techniques, that targets and releases tension in the fascia. Unlike traditional static stretching, which focuses on isolated muscles, FST aims to address the entire fascial system. The therapist applies traction (decompression) and circumduction movements that create a gentle, controlled stretch, targeting multiple fascial lines simultaneously.  In short, fascial lines is how your body’s muscular system works together.  Muscles used in movement do not work alone, and fascia is how they interconnect.

Benefits of Fascial Stretch Therapy

  •  Improved flexibility and range of motion: FST can help to increase joint mobility and muscle extensibility, allowing for better movement and athletic performance.

  • Pain relief: By releasing tension and tightness in the fascia, FST may alleviate muscle soreness, stiffness, and chronic pain.

  • Enhanced posture and alignment: FST can help improve posture by addressing imbalances and restrictions in the fascial system, promoting better alignment and reducing the risk of injuries.

  • Increased circulation and tissue oxygenation: The stretching and mobilization techniques used in FST can improve blood flow and nutrient delivery to the tissues, supporting overall tissue health and recovery.

  • Relaxation and stress reduction: FST sessions often induce a sense of relaxation and well-being, helping to reduce stress and tension in the body.
